May 28 Club Presentation Awards to be held in Bay Hotel
Mark June 23 in your diary, on what promises to be a highly enjoyable evening as Arklow Town Football Club (Juniors) celebrates a fantastic end of season awards Night, to bring down the curtain on season 2008-09. Without doubt the past ten months has shown Town to be at the forefront of WDSL competition, winning nine league titles to date and at this moment in time we have a large number of sides at the business end in both Shield and Cup competitions, the likelihood being an increased number of trophies present at the annual Club Presentation awards. Our thanks to the management and staff of the Arklow Bay Hotel in advance, a suitably sized venue for this year's ceremony - as we will no doubt see on the night. Tuesday, June 23. Mark it down in your diaries now! The Awards are due to commence at 7pm on the night. We look forward to celebrating the season with everyone on the night.

Feb 2 2009 Positive Thinking With the FAI - Workshop in Arklow
Michael Lynam, the Football Association of Ireland's Children's Officer successfully delivered the first of three workshops around the county on the subject of "Positive Coaching", at Arklow's Arus Lorcain earlier tonight - Monday, February 2. Clubs from the south part of the county were all invited and despite the treacherous road conditions a good attendance was present to listen to a highly thought provoking and enjoyable meeting with Mr. Lynam. The aim of the meeting, for all Wicklow and District Schoolboy / Girl League managers and coaches, was to reflect on how it may feel from a child / player perspective, their participation within sport and their own sense of importance to their team or club.
Mr. Lynam spoke at great length on the topic, focusing on the nurturing and development of children within sport and how coaches deal with their many tasks. Consensus amongst the coaches afterwards was that the workshop had been successful in pointing out numerous aspects that can all be applied in the coaching of children, if not already in place. Further workshops will be arranged for the Middle of the County and for the North of the County in the near future.
Aug 15 2008 A Day In The Life - How The Professionals Do It
Arklow Town players James Scallan and Daniel Ledwith are currently seeing first hand what life is like with a professional football club, both having been invited by Sheffield United Football Club to travel over and train with their Academy players for one week at the state of the art facility in the Yorkshire city. United themselves are gearing up for a big push, Kevin Blackwell's side hoping to return to the Premier League after their cruel demotion two seasons ago. Their Academy is highly respected and the tremendous effort being put in by Greg Batten and his staff is evident. What follows is a breakdown of the type of day the boys have enjoyed this past week, an insight into how one of England's leading club's works -
- 8.15am Rise and shine, wake up call.
- 9.00am Travel to the Academy by bus to meet up with 1st and 2nd year Academy scholars. A light breakfast with the group followed by a meeting.
- 10.30am-12.30pm Training.
- 12.30pm-2.00pm Lunch and rest.
- 2.00pm-3.00pm Gym workout, followed by rest / lie down in Academy.
- 4.45pm - Preparation for match at 6.00pm
- 6.00pm Match
Both Town players were selected to start yesterday, as Sheffield United entertained a Canadian academy side. Ledwith played the first half out wide left before slotting back into the left back position for the second half. Scallan, as ever, played a central defensive role and no doubt his voice would have been heard back home if the wind was in that direction! The two players acquitted themselves superbly, playing the full ninety minutes. Scallan was unlucky to see a bullet header ruled out for an infringement but went one better when connecting with a corner superbly to volley home. No doubt a treasured moment, a nice way to cap an excellent week with the Sheffield United Academy side. All in a day's work...
