Presentation Days
June 24 2009 Fabulous season celebrated in style at Presentation Awards
A wonderful season for Arklow Town Football Club was superbly recognised in the Arklow Bay Hotel last evening with the Annual Presentation Awards. In previous years, the end of season celebrations have been held at Lamberton but with this year's record haul of trophies across the age groups it necessitated a move to a venue capable of hosting such an event - and the Arklow Bay Hotel proved to be an excellent choice of venue. All teams turned up in numbers and the sight of all players, from under 8's through to under 18's all bedecked in club colours was a marvellous sight - colour, noise, atmosphere. All in all, a fantastic celebration for all concerned. On the field of play, it has been the best yet, with 25 titles won by Town sides. Ten WDSL League titles; nine WDSL Shield titles; six WDSL Cup successes and a host of runners up places in all competitions guaranteed a busy night at the top table for the giving of prizes.
Needless to say, the unveiling of details of the official partnership between Arklow Town Football Club and Sheffield United Football Club was a highlight of the evening. The Club were delighted to welcome a host of dignitaries from the football family, including representatives from the FAI, SFAI, WDL, WDSL and other leagues. Local community leaders were well represented also. Sheffield United international chairman Terry Robinson was present, travelling from England with assistant first team manager Sam Ellis, Academy director Ron Reid and Gordon Armstrong and Hayden James, from Sheffield's GAP programme. Details of Town's association with Sheffield United were announced with Town's outgoing chairman Brian Byrne revealing the plans, detailing the work that had been put in place over a number of years leading to this occasion, the right deal for both clubs. Highlight of the evening for many, the sight of Irish international midfielder Shane Murray signing professional terms for Sheffield United. It was great to see the Main Hall in the Arklow Bay Hotel packed with children, many still taking their first steps in football, watching one of their club colleagues, a friend, a team mate, a player they look up to, sitting there at the top table, signing a contract to further pursue a career in professional football. The celebration of the past season recommenced with the 11-a-side teams receiving their honours. All sixty of Arklow Town's county players were congratulated, notably the seven who represented the Wicklow Under 13 side with pride at the recent Kennedy Cup in Limerick. No sooner does one season end but another begins and the progression at Town continues with our trials for next season's teams beginning next week, from July 1st to July 5th.

June 23 2008 Town celebrate successful 2007/08 season with Annual Presentations
Adverse weather conditions in the days leading up to this year's Annual Club Presentation Day left the Club with no other option but to host this year's event in the clubhouse itself. In spite of the obvious inconvenience caused to some with the large gathering, the presentation of trophies and medals, as well as individual honours, the evening of organised chaos went pretty much according to plan. Club President Mr. Michael Morgan was on hand to present a special award to Irish International Shane Murray - recognition of his international duties this past season. The U8 sides, who were presented with their medals and certificates at the WDSL Presentation last weekend were on hand to once again receive their honours. The U9A side received their Premier Division Shield prizes while the 9B side received their Division One Runners Up medals. The U9C side received once again the WDSL Wicklow Cup winners medals and Division 3A League Runners-Up medals. The U9D side collected their own Division 3B Shield winners and Division 3B League Runners Up medals. The double winning U10A side were out in force to collect their prizes - Premier Division League and Shield winners. They also collected Runners Up medals for their Joseph Blunt Cup Final defeat (losing on penalties to Newtown after a scoreless draw). The U10B side collected their Division 1 League winners medals while the U10C side were present to receive their Division 3 Runners Up medals, having gone oh so close to winning that division. The U12A side collected Runners Up medals when finishing second in the U12 Premier Division while the U12B side also collected Runners Up trophies for their second place in the U12 Division 1 Shield. The U13B side collected their prizes for winning the Division 2 Shield and ending as Runners Up in the League. The U14s ended a season that promised so much, after reaching the last eight at national level in the SFAI Goodson Cup, with a Premier Division League Runners Up finish while our U15s finished Runners Up in both League and Shield competitions. The U16A side received their Premier League winners trophies and have still to play in the Cup Final.
