June 25 New chairmen at both Senior and Junior levels
AGM's this week at both senior and junior levels both with changes in 'the big seat' at both levels. Thomas Breen stepped down as senior chairman and Noel McDonald was elected unopposed. Similarly, at junior level, Brian Byrne resigned from his position as chairman after four years at the helm, with Paul Breslin elected to the chair, again unopposed. Committees were both returned en bloc but with a few extra additions, again at both levels. Mr. Breen and Mr. Byrne were both thanked for their efforts and best wishes were afforded the new chairmen and their committees.
June 24 Town celebrate end of season in style with club awards
A wonderful occasion for all involved with Arklow Town Football Club, at the Arklow Bay Hotel last evening, with the Annual End Of Season Presentation Awards. With an astounding level of success on the field, Town ensured celebrations off the field matched it with an Evening in the Arklow Bay Hotel proving to be an excellent occasion. All teams present, and bedecked in club colours, providing a wonderful atmosphere as medals, trophies, cups, Shields, certificates and other plaudits were handed out to our successful players. However, it was the unveiling of Town's partnership with Sheffield United that took centre stage as both Brian Byrne from Town and Terry Robinson, Sheffield United's international Chairman, revealed details of the association between the two clubs. Town's Shane Murray, nominated earlier this season at the FAI International Awards for the U16 International Player Of The Season, took centre stage, much to the delight of many club colleagues, to sign professional terms with the Bramall Lane club. It goes without saying that all involved with Arklow Town are deeply proud of Shane's achievements thus far and he will now move to Sheffield with our very best wishes. More details to follow...
June 22 Mini World Cup an astounding success oncemore
Great weather matched the football as this year's Mini World Cup reached a dramatic conclusion at Lamberton at the weekend. Record numbers of children participated over the fortnight with the feeling that this year's competition was the best yet, outdoing last year's excellent tournament. Though helped with fine weather, it was the children who made the tournament what it is with some excellent fare. High drama in the Under 12 Final with Ghana beating USA 2-1, thanks to a late late strike from Eoghan Doyle with just five seconds of normal time remaining. Chile overcame Argentina in the Under 10 Final and quite simply, all those who took part in the Under 6's and Under 8's were all winners! Images from the first weekend are now online and can be viewed here. More images to follow shortly.
June 18 AGM's on the horizon for both Seniors and Juniors
Arklow Town Football Club (Juniors) are holding the Annual General Meeting in the Clubhouse next Monday evening, June 22, commencing at 8pm. Just 48 hours later, the Senior side of the Club hold the Annual General Meeting, also due to commence at 8pm on the night. June 17 Double winners end season on a high
Town's U12A side, Shield and Cup winners this season, ended the year on a high, finishing their outstanding League fixture against Greystones United A tonight, winning 4-1 to secure the runners up berth in the U12 Premier Division. The result brings to an end the most outstanding of seasons for our many under age sides with nine League titles and five League runners up places secured. Add to that the nine Shield titles, two Shield runners up places and five Cup successes - it all points to a very busy End of Season Presentation Night next Tuesday (June 23) in the Arklow Bay Hotel, when the Club celebrates a wonderful season. Tonight's win for the U12A's was secured with goals coming from Adrian Earls, Graham Heaney, Martin Cullen and Cormac Murphy.
June 13 Doyle strike seals Double for Town 13B's
A Conor Doyle strike from distance with little more than fifteen minutes remaining on the clock saw Town's U13B side claim a wonderful WDSL League and Shield double. Facing Greystones United A in the Shield Final, and firmly tagged as underdogs after a recent 4-0 reverse against the same team, Town were to save the best till last, a powerful team performance built upon inspirational defence from Paul Nolan amongst others. Anthony Kelly put Town ahead in the first half, firing home from outside the area with Conor Doyle netting the winner after 'Stones' had levelled before half time. Disappointment though for the 12B side, recent Shield winners, who missed out on a Double of their own when losing the WDSL U12 1st Division Cup Final against Arklow United.
June 12 Brave Town bow out of FAI Cup
Pride in defeat tonight for Matt Britton's side as Arklow Town's run in this season's FAI Cup was finally ended, with defeat away at League of Ireland First Division leaders, UCD. Town's chances of advancing into the last sixteen were dealt a blow in advance of the cup tie, not allowed the opportunity to sign a keeper, with regular netminder Craig Britton suspended and Mervyn Travers on GAA duty this weekend. Willie Doyle is renowned for putting them away at the other end but tonight he was more preoccupied with keeping them out, Town's emergency keeper. Daragh Murray put Town deservedly ahead on the quarter hour mark and the travelling support dared to dream of further success. However, it was not to be, as UCD struck with two first half goals and added a killer third not long after Town had a would-be equaliser ruled out.
June 10 The World descends on Lamberton for Mini World Cup
Everything is now in place for this year's Arklow Town FC Mini World Cup. Now in its 32nd year the Mini World Cup has grown from strength to strength over the years, with many renowned players enjoying their first steps in football via the Mini World Cup. This year's tournament kicks off on Saturday morning with the U6's and U8's taking centre stage; the U10's and U12's commence battle on Sunday. The Mini World Cup Selection Committee have emerged from their darkened room after the difficult team selection process and the selected teams at all age levels can now be viewed here. It goes without saying that all involved with the running of the Mini World Cup wish all participants a wonderful time, hoping that they all enjoy the fun that envelopes the tournament. Let the Mini World Cup begin! To whet the appetite, re-visit last season's wonderful Mini World Cup here.
June 9 Town seeking your support for Cup journey
This coming Friday evening sees Arklow Town's FAI Cup journey returning oncemore to Belfield in UCD, and a pretty stern examination no doubt awaits Town, having knocked out the Student's second XI in the FAI Cup 2nd Round, with goals from Kevin Farrell and Peter Finnegan putting Town into the FAI Cup 3rd Round for the very first time in the Club's history. League of Ireland side UCD, are currently on top of the LOI First Division and no doubt will fancy their chances of avenging Town's previous visit to Belfield. However, Matt Britton remains cautiously optimistic that his Town side can cause a cup upset and advance to the last 16. The Club are providing a free bus service for all those interested in going to the match to support the Town side. For further details, please contact either Thomas Breen at 086 8309340 or Seamus Donegan at 086 602 7510.
June 7 High drama as Town land three more
Drama aplenty today with Town sides vying for four WDSL titles. Disappointment initially for Town's U11B side, who despite a stunning Garrett Kenny free kick, lost out to a late late winner against St. Anthony's. Keith Byrne was the matchwinner for the U12A side, heading home the decisive goal against Wicklow Rovers A in extra time, to land Town the U12 Premier Shield title. Elsewhere, James Graham netted the winning goal for Town's U16B side, who in defeating Wicklow Town landed the U16 Premier Shield title. However, it was in the U15 Premier Shield Final where the action was most dramatic, with Town squeezing past Rathnew 6-4 after extra time, to take the Shield title and secure a Treble. A sublime performance from Mark Hardy, who scored four of Town's six goals, with Darragh O'Leary drawing Town level in the closing moments of normal time. Liam Carroll's strike in the second half of extra time secured the Treble for Town.
June 6 Town secure Treble with Forde strikes
Heavy winds and rain failed to deter Town celebrations earlier in Kilcoole as Town's U14A's secured a rare, and indeed precious, WDSL League, Cup and Shield treble. Goals from Jordan Forde in the first half and Gavin Forde in the second half saw Town beating a gallant Rathnew side 2-1, with the Villagers netting late to give Town a few anxious moments before full time. Manager Joe Byrne was delighed with his side's achievement and paid tribute to the lads and their efforts over the course of the season. Disappointing news though for the U13A side with Lee Kenny's wrist injury totally overshadowing the Final. Everyone wishes Lee a speedy recovery.
June 5 Town sides into Shield Finals
Town's U12A and U11B sides have reached Shield Finals with key away wins at Ardmore Rovers A and Greystones United B respectively. Town's U12A side, having gone down 1-0 at home to Ardmore a few week's back travelled to Bray requiring nothing less than three points to secure a Shield Final place. Goals from Kyle Jordan, Kaelin Broughan, Keith Byrne and Cormac Murphy ensured Town safely advanced to Sunday's Final against Wicklow Rovers. The 11B's recorded an excellent 3-2 win at Greystones to set up a meeting with St. Anthony's on Sunday, in the U11 Division 1 Shield Final. Goals from Paul Ryan, Corey Mills and Aaron O'Toole ensured Town booked their place in the Final.
June 2 Pipped at the post
Disappointment for Town's U9A side in tonight's WDSL U9 Premier Shield Final, against Enniskerry. The game ebbed and flowed from the first whistle, with the Bog Meadow side taking a crucial lead midway through the first half, somewhat against the run of play. Town tried valiantly all game to level matters but it wasn't to be their night, chasing a League and Shield double. Enniskerry sealed victory with a deflected goal late in the game. The U13B's, playing their second fixture in two days, lost out at leaders Greystones United A. With one fixture remaining Town can still make the Shield Final but will need a little assistance from 'Stones to ensure they meet again.
Jun 1 Town's 15's lift Double - Town's sixth trophy on a busy weekend
A first half brace from Adam Brown and a second half strike from Mark Hardy secured a U15 Premier Cup success for Arklow Town, 3-1 winners over Rathnew. Town have now added the cup to the League title won earlier this season and they face Rathnew again next weekend in a keenly anticipated Shield Final. If Town can win that upcoming fixture against Rathnew then they will secure a treble. Elsewhere, reports are breaking that the ladies participating in today's Ladies Mini Marathon in Dublin have completed their arduous task - passing shops - in record time, coming in on the two hour mark. Congratulations to each and everyone who took time out to fundraise on behalf of the Club. A social evening is planned for later tonight at Darcy Magee's on Main Street. All are welcome.
May 31 The cups just keep on coming! Super Sunday sees Town lift five cups
The sunshine may be hot but Town's season continues in even hotter fashion with four trophies won today, to add to yesterday's U14A cup success. Nathan Doyle fired home a late winner in the Arklow derby with United, to secure a Division 2 Shield success for Town. The U12A's overcame Coolboy 4-0 to lift the U12 Premier Cup with goals from Kaelin Broughan (2), Jordan Gannon and Adrian Earls. Patrick Dempsey scored an excellent goal to secure a back to back Double for Arklow Town's U11A team, 1-0 winners over Newtown in the Shield Final. In the meeting between Town's U16A and U16B sides, in the U16 Premier Cup Final, it was the A team who emerged victorious, winning 5-2, to secure a Double, having sealed the league title earlier in the week.
May 30 Town sizzle in Cup Final success
Town's U14A side added the WDSL U14 Premier Cup to the league title won emphatically before Christmas with a blistering team performance at the Carlisle Grounds earlier today, with Roundwood the gallant opposition. The Division 1 side were no match for Town, who racked up a nine goal blitz on the Vartry based club. Philip Nolan and James Sheehan bagged two apiece, while further goals came from Gavin Forde, Diarmuid Larkin, Dylan Hanlon, Patrick Power and Aidan O'Callaghan. Elsewhere, the U11B side were afforded a walkover from Ashford, placing the 11B's a step closer to Shield Final action themselves.
May 26 Another title comes to Town
Arklow Town U16A's eased to a comfortable 5-0 win tonight away at Ardmore Rovers A to secure a ninth WDSL League title for the Club this season. Goals from Clive Crammond, Dara Verney, Jack Tim Murphy, Aaron Barry and Jason Earls ensured the 16A's completed the set, league champions at every age level from age nine upwards. The 14A's qualified for the Shield Final, maintaining their own treble ambitions, receiving a walkover from Wicklow Rovers A. Also into a Shield Final are the 9A's, with an excellent 4-1 win away at St. Anthony's. The U12B side emerged on top in a local derby with Arklow United, winning 2-1 with goals from Nathan Doyle and Luke Walker.
May 25 Town set for repeat examination after cup draw
School's out for summer once sang Alice Cooper many (full) moons ago. That rule certainly does not apply for Town manager Matt Britton and his Leinster Senior Division 1 side, fresh from overcoming a difficult away tie at LSL Division 1B side UCD in the FAI Cup 2nd Round on Sunday, winning with goals coming from Kevin Farrell and Peter Finnegan, to ensure Town's name was in the hat for the very first time in the club's 61 year history in tonight's televised FAI Ford Cup 3rd Round draw, where the 22 League of Ireland sides all enter the fray. The draw was made earlier this evening at Dublin's Burlington Hotel, with ex-Irish international Frank Stapleton performing the honours alongside FAI President, Mr. David Blood. Town's reward for passing their UCD examination? A trip back to the Belfield Bowl to face high flying League of Ireland Division 1 side, UCD! The Dublin side have enjoyed an impressive start in LOI Division 1 this season and currently sit atop the division jointly with Waterford United. All FAI Cup 3rd Round ties are due to be played on the weekend ending June 14. Full FAI Cup 3rd Round details here.
May 24 Wicklow foiled in All Ireland Final
Two goals in quick succession midway through the second half ensured Cork U16 Schoolboys lifted the coveted SFAI U16 Paul O'Neill Cup at Arklow Town's Bridgewater Centre Park this afternoon. A thunderbolt shot from Arminas Balevicius on the hour mark was followed with a goal from Josh O'Shea and despite the best efforts of Wicklow the Cork side prevailed. The Wicklow side, made up entirely of Arklow Town players, though naturally disappointed with the outcome of the Final, should take solace in their achievements to date this season, notably lifting a second successive Leinster title en route to the showpiece final against Cork.
May 23 No doubting Thomas in 9B's Shield shoot out success
Keeper David Thomas was the hero for Arklow Town U9B's, after a dramatic sudden death penalty shoot out success over gallant Wolfe Tone A in Kilcoole earlier today. A gripping encounter ended scoreless and the drama was heightened in the shoot out. David Thomas saved Wolfe Tone's first penalty but the tension mounted as Rory Heffernan had to score Arklow's last spot kick, to bring Town into sudden death. He slotted home and that was followed with Thomas making a wonderful save to tee up Harold Stephenson's kick, winning the Shield for Town. The U10A's completed a memorable treble with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Greystones, goals from Ross Hanley (2) and Liam Scales. Disappointment though for the U11A's, losing 2-0 to a good Newtown side in the U11 Premier Cup Final at the Carlisle Grounds. Elsewhere, excellent home wins for the U12A's and U14A's.
May 18 All Ireland Final preview
A long held vision will hopefully come to fruition next weekend at Bridgewater Centre Park, when Wicklow’s Under 16 WDSL side entertain their Cork counterparts with a prestigious All Ireland title the prize awaiting the victors. The Wicklow side is, of course, made up entirely of Arklow Town players and they will be hopeful that home advantage will prove key in their quest for a national title. The Leinster champions secured their place in the SFAI's showpiece Inter-League Final with victory over Galway earlier this month, with goals from Shane Murray and Keith Armstrong enough to ease past the Tribesmen.
May 17 13B's take centre stage as weather decimates programme
A highly frustrating weekend of adverse weather puts Town's cup ambitions on hold, with the U11A's, U12A's, U12B's and U13A's all seeing their cup finals postponed. Similarly, in WDSL Shield action, just two fixtures fulfilled over the weekend, with the U13B's travelling to Avoca earlier today and returning with an emphatic 7-2 victory over their hosts, St. Patrick's. Keith Byrne fired a hat trick for Town with the three points putting the Division 1 League winners firmly into Shield contention. Anthony Kelly bagged two with other goals coming from Ciaran O'Reilly and Dale O'Brien. The U9C's were the only other side to play, welcoming Greystones to the Leisure Centre. Following on from their excellent performance away at Carnew Town took an early lead, through Mattas Lukooenicius. Drama in the closing moments though with the visitors equalising from the penalty spot, the game finishing 1-1.
May 15 Master class from Town secures Double
A clinical display from Town's U17 side earlier tonight has secured a WDL League and Cup double for the team. Leading 1-0 at the interval thanks to a Jonathan Kelty strike Town tore Greystones United apart with a wonderful second half display, with further goals coming from Darragh Culleton, Aaron Barry, Shane Murray, Jack Tim Murphy and a second from Kelty. The League title success comes hot on the heels of the WDL Cup success last month, when Town eased past St. Anthony's in a very one sided Final,
May 14 Town sides perform well on their travels
A good night "on the road" for our Town sides, all fulfilling away fixtures this evening. Arguably the best performance of the night saw Town's U14B side frightening Wicklow Rovers A at Whitegates, with the promoted Division 1 side putting four past the home side before bowing 4-5 to their hosts. The U9A's bounced back from Saturday's cup final reverse with a fine 4-0 win at Wicklow Rovers, with both Aaron Roche and Clive Keenan netting twice. The result sees Town on the verge of a Shield Final with one fixture remaining. The U11B's maintained their push for a Shield Final place with a 4-3 win away at Ashford. Darren Dempsey netted twice with further goals coming from Aaron O'Toole and Harry Nuzum. Town's 13B's performed well tonight but had to settle for a scoreless draw in Aughrim, with the result helping neither side in their quest for Shield honours. The U15's meanwhile were afforded a walkover from the non-travelling Enniskerry side. Homes wins last night for both U12A's, against St. Peter's Boys, and the U13A side, against Ardmore Rovers.
May 12 9C's turn on the style
Town's U9C team went incredibly close to pulling off one of the shock results of the season earlier tonight, eventually losing 2-1 away at Division 3A title chasing Carnew. The U9C's have been playing some decent football all season and though tonight ended in defeat the entire team can rightly be proud of their efforts - arguably the best display all season. Carnew needed the three points from tonight's league clash to force a play off for the title and were truly rocked by Town's display. Mattas Lukooenicius was Town's scorer tonight and the side can now renew their Shield campaign with growing confidence. Elsewhere, two strikes from Stuart O'Neill and Patrick Doyle were enough to ease the U16B's past Wicklow Town at Bridgewater Centre Park while the dress rehearsal for this Sunday's WDSL U11 Premier Cup clash between the U11A's and Newtown ended with Newtown winning 2-1, Town's first defeat in Shield action this year. Cliona Crammond was Town's lone goalscorer with Town hoping to be back to full strength for the weekend's eagerly anticipated clash in the Carlisle Grounds.
May 10 11s inch closer to Shield Finals
Good wins for all our U11 sides, with the 11A's comfortable 6-0 winners away at Wolfe Tone, now securing a place in this season's Shield Final. Equally, the 11B's move ominously into Shield Final contention with a good 3-0 win over a game Rathnew side. The 11C's enjoyed a 5-4 success at St. Anthony's with Conor Hughes netting four of Town's haul. Disappointment though for both U10D's and U10E's, with the 10E's unluckily losing out to two late goals at home to Greystones United C. The result ends Town's 10D hopes of a Shield Final place. More disappointment for the U13A side, edged out 1-0 in a tight encounter away at Wicklow Rovers A. The U13B's were also beaten, 2-1 at home against Aughrim Rangers, with Sean Loughlin Town's scorer. A John Kearon hat trick helped the 15A's to a fine 6-2 win away at Greystones to keep their own Shield ambitions on track.
May 9 Wicklow U16's through to All Ireland Final
Congratulations to Wicklow's (WDSL) U16 side who earlier today reached the national final of the SFAI (Inter League) Paul O'Neill Cup with a thrilling 2-1 win at Bridgewater Centre Park over a valiant Galway side. The Leinster champions, all Arklow Town players, were determined to secure passage into the prestigious final after twice losing out in previous years at the penultimate stage of the Inter League competition. Goals from Shane Murray and Keith Armstrong secured the landmark victory for the Wicklow side and they will now entertain rivals Cork in the Final with the Rebel county side advancing to the Final at the expense of reigning All Ireland champions Waterford. The Final takes place at Arklow Town's Bridgewater Centre Park on Saturday, May 23 and promises to be a glamorous occasion.
May 9 Town hold their nerve to lift the Cup
It may be a tired old cliché but football was the winner in Rathnew earlier today, with the first five WDSL Cup Finals being played at Shamrock Park. Town had two teams competing, the U9A's against Enniskerry in the ATFC Juniors Cup Final and the U10A's, against Greystones United A in the Joseph Blunt Cup Final. Disappointment for Town's U9A side with a strong Enniskerry side cancelling out Clive Keenan's fantastic first half volley to win 2-1. The U10A's though were forced to dig deep against an excellent Greystones side, twice coming from behind before winning 4-2. Goals from Liam Scales (2), Morgan Harris and a very late headed effort from Conor Dodd ensured Town completed the second leg of a potential treble. In WDSL Shield action, the U14A's continued their pursuit of honours with a 9-0 win away at Greystones.
May 7 Resilient Town edge closer to Final
Arklow Town's U11A side secured a sixth successive Shield victory earlier tonight with a hard won three points against visitors Newtown in a top of the table clash at the Community College. Town suffered an early blow with the loss of Dáire O'Conchubhair to injury. Goals though from Patrick Dempsey and Stephen McElligott Ryan maintained Town's drive for additional honours to the league title secured before Christmas. Draws for both U13A and U14A sides in meeting with their respective Wicklow Rovers counterparts. Sean Hurley on target for the 13s with Diarmuid Larkin the scorer for the 14s, with both meetings ending 1-1. Adam Brown and Kyle Dowling both bagged a double as Town's U15 side all but secured a place in this season's Shield final with a 5-1 win at St. Anthony's. Town's U9A side had to settle for a share of the spoils with Ardmore in a scoreless encounter at the Leisure Centre, ensuring the race for a Shield final place goes right to the wire.
May 6 Town survive crazy night of goals in Kilcoole
A wonderfully entertaining match between Town's U10C team and St. Anthony's in Kilcoole tonight ended with Town winning by the odd goal in eleven! A true end-to-end scrap, Town wrapped up the win with goals from Caleb Briggs-Wolohan (2), Alex Tyrrell (2), Cameron Walker and a top class winner from the left foot volley of Ronan Arthur. U11B's home fixture versus Ashford Rovers was postponed at late notice while there was disappointment for Town's U12A's, losing out 1-0 at home to a late Ardmore Rovers A strike at Bridgewater Centre Park. All Shield tables will be updated on Friday to reflect this week's midweek fixtures across the WDSL divisions.
May 5 Busy night for Town sides with 9B's closing in on Shield Final place
The pressure was well and truly upon young U9B shoulders tonight with the WDSL U9 Division 1 side needing nothing less than a win and three points from their meeting with Wolfe Tone B if to maintain their push for Shield success. In what can only be described as a powerhouse performance from the U9B team, goals from Jano Evans and Keith Moore ensured that Town have secured at least a play off place. Dick Lyons' side were excellent throughout and the defence were nothing short of magnificent, having gone through their home programme conceding just one goal at the Leisure Centre. The U9A side were also in action, travelling to Greystones United A and they had to settle for a share of the spoils having drawn 2-2. The U9C side lost out 2-0, also away at Greystones, while our U12B side endured a frustrating evening, forced to settle for a draw at Aughrim, 2-2, with goals from Luke Walker and Aaron Doyle. The U16B side, already in pole position, were afforded a walkover from an Avonmore side not travelling to Arklow.
May 3 Town keep Shield ambition on track
A big three points for Town's U11B team earlier today with the win over Greystones United B at Bridgewater Centre Park. 'Stones arrived in Arklow having taken maximum points from their opening three Shield fixtures, and when the visitors went one up the outlook for a Town victory was bleak. However, with the introduction of substitute Joseph Ledwith at half time the Arklow side fashioned a comeback with goals from Aaron O'Toole and Darren Dempsey, to win 2-1. The U11C's however went down at home to Coolboy with Niall McDonald and Conor Hughes netting in a 2-8 defeat. Defeat also for our U13B side, going down 1-3 to Greystones United, with Patrick Brennan Town's lone scorer. The U10A's meanwhile travelled to Malahide to face DDSL side Malahide United in a firiendly fixture.
May 2 Thumbs up for 9B's Shield challenge
A sizeable attendance was present at the Leisure Centre today for the key WDSL U9 Division 1 meeting between Town's U9B and Newtown A sides. Newtown went into the game two points ahead of Town, knowing a win would see them place one foot in this month's Shield Final. However, it was to be Town's day after an excellent team performance. Harold Stephenson fired home a goal of the season contender to put Town joint top of the division and with one home game remaining the side has an excellent chance to progress into the Shield Final. Town's U9C's were unlucky on their travels to Kilcoole, losing to a solitary strike after putting up a sterling effort. Jack O'Reilly, Liam Moore, James O'Brien and Dylan Murray were all on target for Town's U8D side, comfortable winners away at Greystones United.
May 1 Hurley hammers home the point
Arklow Town U10E's earned their first point of their Shield campaign earlier this evening with a 1-1 draw against unbeaten St. Partick's. The Town side put in their finest performance of the season to date and when Tom Hurley fired Arklow into a deserved lead they dared to dream of a first win. That victory was only denied late in the game, three minutes from full time, when St. Patrick's levelled. Town have one game remaining this season, a home fixture versus Greystones United C and will hope to build on tonight's performance with an equally fine showing against 'Stones.
Apr 29 The Nines make in TEN!
Goals from Niall Murphy and Abbie Molloy ensured that Town's U9A side advanced to the U9 Arklow Town FC Juniors Cup Final at the expense of a gallant St. Anthony's, at Newtown earlier this evening. Town's success now means that the Club will see TEN sides participating in WDSL cup finals in the weeks ahead - a fantastic achievement, and congratulations to all who are eagerly looking forward to these games. Town's U16B side secured a second successive win in Shield competition, winning at Aughrim to maintain their 100% start to the campaign. Wicklow Rovers A exacted a modicum of revenge over Town's U12A side after their recent cup exit to Town, with a 1-0 win in a very tight encounter at Whitegates. All other fixtures were postponed with the adverse weather decimating the fixture programme. Someone please tell the weatherman that summertime officially commences this coming weekend!
Apr 26 10D's makin' their move
A solitary Ben Makin strike for Arklow Town's U10D side five minutes into the second half against Roundwood at the Leisure Centre sees the 10D's on the verge of qualifying for this season's Shield Final. A Tom Maher brace, and further goals from Ros McBride and Peter Tyrrell secured a fine end of season win for the U10B side over Ardmore Rovers A. Dáire O'Conchubhair and Darren Beevor were both on target for the U11A side in a fine Shield win over Greystones United A, in Woodlands. Defeats though for both U11B and U11C, against St. Anthony's and Roundwood respectively. Both U12A and U12B sides enjoyed wins while our U13B put in a cracking performance before losing to Ardmore's A side in the U13 Premier Division play off. The U15's edged past St. Anthony's, winning 3-2 while the U16B side won away at Avonmore, with Des Bermingham netting four of Town's six in a 6-3 victory. Town's senior second team travelled to Coolboy to face Fairwood Celtic in a Wicklow Cup quarter final and a lone Willie Kavanagh strike ensured Town advance to the Wicklow Cup semi final.
Apr 25 Extra time heartbreak for Town
Arklow Town U16's bowed out of this year's SFAI National Cup (Barry Cup) after a last gasp winner in extra time saw home side College Corinthians (Cork) advance to the semi final. Town fell behind to an early goal but had levelled in the tenth minute through Dara Verney. With no further goals in normal time a tense period of extra time followed, with Corinthians nicking the tie in the last minute. Rain decimated the home programme in WDSL competition. Town's U10A's won yet again, 3-2 at Greystones United A, while the U14B's put up a fine show, also against Greystones United A, before losing out 3-1, with Tom Sheehan netting Town's goal. Town's U13A side meanwhile enjoyed a fine 2-0 win over Wicklow Rovers B, with goals from Shane Walker and Cormac Byrne ensuring the points for Town.
Apr 22 Dominant Town lift Cup
Arklow Town U17's lifted the WDL U17 Youth Cup for the third successive season after a comprehensive 8-0 win over St. Anthony's in Rathnew tonight. Goals from Darragh Culleton, Jonathan Kelty, Shane Murray, Jack Tim Murphy, James Scallan and three from Dara Verney eased the Town side to victory. In WDSL action, an eighth straight win for Town's U10A side, defeating Newtown 3-1. The U11A's were convincing 5-0 winners over Ardmore while Town's U14A side were in action last night, at Rathnew, and had to settle for a share of the spoils, a 1-1 draw, with Padraig Kelleher Arklow's scorer. The U11C side went down 6-1 at Coolboy, Charlie Scales Town's scorer.
Apr 19 Nine Town sides into cup finals
A "Super Sunday" for the club with nine Arklow Town sides now qualified for the various cup finals across the age divisions. Des Bermingham netted a hat trick as the U16B's advanced to meet the U16A's in the U16 Premier Cup while drama at U15 level with Town coming from two down to defeat Greystones United after extra time, Ian Reid bagging the decider. The U13A's were comfortable winners against Ardmore Rovers while the U12A's oncemore triumphed after a dramatic penalty shoot out. The U12B's defeated Newtown with a goal from Luke Walker. Brandon Hogan scored the winner for the U10D's at Greystones United in their Shield fixture, to place Town firmly in contention.
Apr 18 Town power into Shield Final
Goals from Morgan Harris (2), Conor Dodd (2) and Ross Hanley put the 10A's into next month's Shield Final after a powerful team performance blitzed visitors Wicklow Rovers. Town's U9B's had to settle for a share of the spoils with Enniskerry in Division 1 while disappointment in defeat for the U10C's after a spirited performance against St. Anthony's. Michael Kennedy and Darren Furlong rescued the U11A side from a potential cup upset, also against a St. Anthony's side, having trailed for most of their semi final. However, Town's late goals ensured their treble hopes remain intact. Aidan O'Callaghan netted the winner for Town's U14A side, as they too overcame cup semi final opponents, Rathnew, to preserve their own treble aspirations.
Apr 17 Easter Camp a roaring success
Congratulations to the many boys and girls who participated in this week's excellent Easter Camp. Feedback from most children who enjoyed the camp seems to have been highly positive, with debates raging about "Champions League" action and "World Cup" action! If you took part in the Camp and would like to offer some feedback on the Camp then please do. You can email in your thoughts here or via the contact us page here. Either way, we eagerly await your thoughts on the Camp.
Apr 15 Early Murray strike strengthens title hopes
A strike early in the first half from Daragh Murray sent Arklow Town on their way earlier this evening to a 3-0 win against Broadford Rovers, in Town's last home fixture of the Leinster Senior League season. Dave McDonald added to Town's lead before half time and substitute Graham Lawlor went close on a number of occasions in the second half before converting Town's third from the penalty spot late on. In WDSL action tonight, a Brandon Hogan strike put Town's U10D side ahead away at St. Patrick's. The Town side were however hauled back late in the game when the home side equalised in the closing minutes. The U11B game versus Rathnew and the U10C fixture versus Greystones United C were both postponed.

Thursday sees the U13B's travelling to Ardmore for a play off and the U12B side welcome Arklow United to Lamberton for a key Shield fixture. The U11C side are also in action on Thursday, welcoming Coolboy to the Community College. However, Wednesday evening sees Town's Leinster Senior League side fulfilling their last home fixture in Senior Division 1, with Broadford Rovers the visitors, and the league leaders need not only six points from their last two games to secure promotion but also your support. Kick off is at 7.45pm.
Apr 10 Long Good Friday for The Town!
A night of high drama at Bridgewater Centre Park tonight as Arklow Town dared to place one foot firmly into the Leinster Senior Division with a late late show against a gallant Skerries Town. Scoreless at half time the game burst into life when the visitors opened the scoring against the run of play, ten minutes after the interval. Town pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded when Daragh Murray was felled in the area. Willie Doyle stepped up to fire home and deep into injury time Daragh Murray, much to the delight of team mates, management and supporters alike, coolly slotted home the most priceless of winners to keep Town's title and promotion push firmly on track. Town now await the results of rivals Liffeys' Pearse and Firhouse Clover before knowing if promotion can be guaranteed, at Lamberton, next Wednesday evening, when Broadford Rovers visit Town for Arklow's last home fixture. Come out and support the team on what could be a memorable night.
Apr 8 Busy night for Town sides
A busy night of midweek action for a number of Town sides with our Leinster Senior League side, currently on top of LSL Division 1, visiting second place Liffeys' Pearse, for a key fixture, with the title in the balance. Though leading 2-0 at one stage Town were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after a last minute penalty, Liffeys' second of the night, was converted past keeper Craig Britton. Fresh from their cup success over the same opponents, Town's U12A side welcomed Wicklow Rovers A back to Bridgewater Centre Park for a Shield fixture and though dominating throughout, missed opportunities ensured both sides gained a point for their efforts. Result of the night though came down in Carnew with Town's U11B side hammering the home side 6-1, with striker Darren Dempsey netting a hat trick. Action at Lamberton last night, in dreadful weather conditions, saw our two U14 sides facing each other, with the A team prevailing on the night.
Apr 6 Historic moment for Town in FAI Cup draw
For the very first time in the Club's 61 year history, the name of Arklow Town FC was in the hat for tonight's draw for the opening two rounds of this season's FAI Ford Cup. Our Leinster Senior League Division 1 table toppers, enjoying a fine season, have come through numerous rounds of pre-qualifying and now, thanks to tonight's draw at FAI HQ in Abbotstown, find themselves a mere ninety minutes away from the third round proper, when the League of Ireland clubs enter the fray. Town were given a bye in the first round before being drawn away to fellow LSL side, UCD. UCD play in LSL Division 1B and though the free scoring Dublin side will be tough opponents confidence must be high that Town could yet see an exciting chapter in the Club's history about to unfold. Town will travel to UCD on the weekend ending May 24. Full draw listed here.
Apr 5 Town secure date in cup final
Town's U10A side eased past the challenge of Ardmore Rovers A to book a place in next month's Joseph Blunt Cup Final. Goals from Ross Hanley (2), Neil Murphy and Mikey Quigley saw Town winning 4-0. A wonder goal from Darren Beevor was the highlight of the U11A's win over Wolfe Tone A in Shield action. The U12B's had a comfortable victory away at Greystones United and the U15s were never extended when trouncing Wicklow Town. Defeat though for the U14B's, at home against Wicklow Rovers. The U13A side wrapped up their league programme with a 2-0 win away at Wolfe Tone. Match reports on all games to follow.
Apr 4 High drama sees Town win through after penalties
A titanic U12 Premier Cup clash between Town's U12A and Wicklow Rovers A was settled when Keith Byrne fired home the decisive penalty kick after the match had ended 2-2 after extra time. Town twice led thanks to two goals from Kyle Hilliard but were hauled back by a determined Rovers. Aaron Jackson was heroic in goals for Arklow, who now advance to the cup semi final. Elsewhere, in Shield action, the U11B's recorded their first win in this season's Shield with a fine 3-0 win away at Rathnew. Town's U10D team prevailed in the derby game with the U10E side, winning 3-0 while a Madus Loco strike earned the U9C's a share of the spoils away at Wolfe Tone. A Chris Drohan hat trick put the U8E's on their way to success at Avonmore while closer to home there was plenty to cheer as the U8C's defeated Arklow United at Ferndale Park, with Nathan Cullen bagging two for Town.
Mar 30 A's prevail in top of the table clash
The WDSL's two leading U16 sides came face to face at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier this evening, with Town's A team facing Town's B team in a top of the league table clash between the two. With the B's going into this, their last league fixture, on 24 points at the top of the table, the A team, though with games in hand, needed the three points to gain a firm grip on the league. With a 3-0 success they duly obliged to now lie just three points behind the B team, with three fixtures to fulfil. The U16 Premier Division league title will be Town's ninth success this season alone - a truly remarkable achievement. On the night, a highly entertaining and competitive game, goals from Mark Hardy in the first half, and two late goals from Ian Reid and Dara Verney settled the issue in favour of the A team. Also in action earlier this evening, our U10C side travelled to Rathnew and though minus five players they put on an excellent showing before losing 3-2 to the home side.
Mar 29 Town 13B's land eighth league title for Club
A powerful first half performance away at Roundwood earlier today put the U13B's firmly en route to a resounding 4-1 victory, to successfully claim the WDSL Division 1 league title. This latest success is Town's eighth league title victory to date this season, with the U16 Premier title a guaranteed ninth imminent for Town with both U16A and U16B vying for that honour. A Conor Hughes hat trick inspired the U11C's to a thumping 10-1 away win at St. Patrick's while a Lee Kenny brace saw the U13A side victorious against Wicklow Rovers B. Mark Hardy and Alan Sunderland both bagged hat tricks for the U15's against Greystones in a comfortable 8-2 success. Meanwhile, at a fresh Fairview Park in Dublin, it was heartbreak for our Youth side, exiting the Leinster Youth Cup at the quarter final stage after an eventful match with Sheriff YC ended level, 3-3, with the Dublin side advancing to the semi final after the lottery of a penalty shoot out.
A Dylan Hanlon brace was the highlight of Town's U14A's fine 3-0 success over a game Rathnew side, in their opening Shield fixture. Town's third goal came courtesy of Jonathan Delahunt. The win sees Town continuing their fine league winning form into Shield competition. Stalemate though for the U11B's at home against Carnew. Despite dominating proceedings they couldn't quite find a goal. A similar tale for both U9B's and U8D's, against Newtown and Wicklow Town respectively, though the 9B's put in a superb team performance away at the current leaders. Liam Coleman and Conor Byrne both netted twice for Town's U8A's in a thumping 5-1 win over Greystones at the Leisure Centre.
Mar 26 Cup semi final draws made tonight at monthly meeting
Ten Arklow Town sides went into the draws earlier tonight at the monthly meeting of all WDSL clubs, in Wicklow, for the upcoming WDSL Cup semi finals at all age levels. Arguably the biggest talking point of the evening revolved around Town's two U16 sides managing to avoid each other, setting up the prospect of an all Arklow Town U16 Premier Cup Final. For further details of the cup draws please click on the relevant age category: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16.
Mar 25 Excellent night for Town against the national side
Another proud occasion for the Club earlier this evening with the ever welcome presence of Vincent Butler and his Republic of Ireland U16 side, to face Arklow Town. A good attendance was present to watch a good game between the home club and the national team, with the honours going to the home side on the night courtesy of a fine Jonathan Kelty goal midway through the second half. The second half, however, saw Arklow dominating, playing with plenty of pace and verve, and when the goal came it was nothing more than Town deserved. An added bonus on the night was the sight of two Arklow keepers facing each other, Jason Earls and Cormac O'Brien taking turns on duty in Town's goal and Nathan Condell a second half substitute for the Irish side, all three keeping a clean sheet each. Match report here. All in all, a highly satisfying night for both team and the Club. Town's Paul Breslin, in the match programme, penned a lovely Appreciation of Vincent Butler, which can be viewed here.
Mar 22 Irish side return to Lamberton
Arklow Town Football Club have left no stone unturned in preparation for Wednesday night's eagerly anticipated clash between the U16's and the national side, managed by Vincent Butler. The two sides were initially due to face each other last month but the adverse weather at that time ensured the game was postponed till now. The teams have faced each other three times now at Lamberton this past year, with the national side edging home in the last outing, thanks to a free kick from Crumlin United's Daniel Purdy. Irish manager Vincent Butler retires from his post as U16 manager at the end of the season and views this game with Town as ideal preparation for the national side's progression this spring. Indeed, the game holds similar importance for Town, in the build up to the last eight quarter final clash in the SFAI National Cup, away at Cork side Corinthians. Kick off is at 7pm and admission is free.
Mar 22 Unlucky break for Brennan
Everyone at the Club wishes U13B player Malachy Brennan a speedy recovery after he broke a bone in his ankle earlier today in the fixture at Avonmore. In fact, Brennan had been Town's leading player all game and with the sides level, 2-2, and less than five minutes remaining, Brennan suffered his injury and the game was duly abandoned. A win today for Town would have secured the title so they'll now have to wait another day. Elsewhere, wins for U9A at Ardmore Rovers; U11A at home to Wicklow Rovers A and U16B at Ardmore. Good wins at U8 level for our A's, C's and E's also. A frustrating day for the U9B's, going well in Division 1, having to settle for a share of the spoils with Wicklow Town.
Mar 21 Town win Title in style
Arklow Town U14A's were crowned WDSL U14 Premier Division League champions earlier today with a resounding 4-0 success over main rivals Wicklow Rovers at Bridgewater Centre Park. Goals from Jordan Forde (2), Diarmuid Larkin and Dylan Hanlon ensured Town eased to the title, making it a magnficent seven League titles won by the Club so far this season across the ages. Elsewhere, the U15s eased to a 17-0 win over Wicklow Town, while Conor Hughes was on the mark twice for the U11C side in an excellent 3-2, also against Wicklow Town, at Finlay Park. Town's U10B side went down 2-1 at Wicklow Rovers while Division 1 runaway leaders Avonmore were relieved to escape from the Leisure Centre with a point, having shared four goals with Town's U10C side, with Alex Tyrrell netting twice for the home side. The U9C side lost out 2-1 to Wolfe Tone C and defeat also for the U8B side, at Aughrim. However, a great team performance from the U8D side saw them winning 1-0 against Aughrim, with Jack O'Reilly scoring the winner. Disappointment though for the U17 side, losing 1-0 at Greystones United after a very physical encounter.
Mar 20 Town boys busy bag packing this weekend
Arklow Town's U13A squad are busy this weekend helping with the bag packing at the local Tesco store, in a drive to assist their necessary fundraising for this summer's trip to Derry to take part in the prestigious Foyle Cup tournament. The Foyle Cup tournament is one of the leading summer tournaments and attracts teams from all over the world. If shopping at Tesco this weekend, look out for the lads and remember, "every little helps" - so help the squad as best you can.
Mar 19 Town's recognition as Best Sporting Organisation
Arklow Town Football Club (Juniors) turned out in great number for the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Tuesday, the streets of Arklow bathed in glorious sunshine. This year's 6s and 7s Club lead the way and aside being highly colourful they were also heard, with regular shouts of "Arklow Town! Arklow Town!" Plenty of colour also amongst the numbers marching behind the Arklow Town flags and banners, each and every one of them a credit to the Club. Their efforts did not go unnoticed as the marching boys and girls of Arklow Town Football Club were recognised with the Club being acknowledged as the Best Sporting Organisation, winning the new Kitty Fisher Memorial Perpetual Cup, in honour of the late Mrs. Kitty Fisher, from Mellowes Avenue, an ardent supporter of the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Pictured right we have Arklow Town FC's John McDonald accepting the award on behalf of the Club from members of the late Mrs. Fisher's family. St. Patrick's Day Parade Gallery here.
Mar 15 Late late winner puts Town into semi's
High drama at Lamberton earlier today with Arklow Town U12B and Wicklow Town meeting in the WDSL U12 Division 1 Cup quarter final. With penalties looming the deadlock was broken deep into extra time with Luke Walker firing Town's winner. Town's U16A side were also cup winners, accounting for Avonmore. The U13A side eased past Greystones United A to reach the semi finals of the WDSL U13 Premier Cup. Disappointment though for the U10D team, losing at St. Patrick's in their Shane Hetherington Cup quarter final. The U14B side defeated Ardmore Rovers A with an Aaron Murphy strike to secure promotion to the Premier Division while the U10B side earned an excellent Shield victory over Newtown at the Leisure Centre. Excellent wins for U8A, U8B and U8D also, while the U8C team shared the spoils on their travels to Wolfe Tone A. Defeats though for U8E, U9B and U10E.
Mar 14 Bright lights, bright future as Town sides shine
A great night, a great occasion for the Club, and a thoroughly entertaining meeting of Town's U11A's and U11B's in Premier Cup football was the order of the evening at Bridgewater Centre Park as the two sides served up a feast of entertaining football, with the A's advancing to the semi final, winning 3-0. The U14A's are also semi final bound after thumping Wicklow Rovers A 4-0. U16B are another side reaching the semi final stage, after hammering eight past Greystones United at Woodlands. At the same venue, the U17s were excellent value in their Cup semi final success over Greystones. The U10A's accounted for Wolfe Tone A with ease to cruise into the semi final of the Joseph Blunt Cup while the U9A's advanced also after a dramatic penalty shoot out success over Ardmore Rovers at Ballywaltrim.
Mar 13 Unlucky Friday the 13th for Town in cup exit
Disappointment earlier tonight at a wet Bridgewater Centre Park for Town's senior B team, exiting the Charlie Bishop Cup at the quarter final stage, against Division 1 side St. Peters Bhoys B, losing to a penalty kick converted midway through the opening half. Town, unbeaten at home this season in Division 2, struggled to find any cohesion in their play, creating very few genuine openings in front of goal on what ultimately proved to be a frustrating night for the home side. David Moorhouse was the pick of Town's XI, eager at all times to get the ball on the deck and pass it. Match report here.
Mar 8 Late Condell penalty save keeps Town on track
High drama in the closing stages of Town U16B's win over Avonmore with keeper Nathan Condell saving from the penalty spot with the home side leading 2-1. Town went upfield and settled the issue with Steven O'Neill netting his first goal for the club. A good performance from the U12A's against Wolfe Tone A resulted in a 3-1 win for Town and that was followed by an excellent performance from the U11A's, who opened their Shield account with a thorough 2-0 win over Greystones United A. Disappointment though for the U12B and U11B sides respectively, losing at Arklow United and St. Anthony's in their first Shield outings. Similarly, a bad day at the office across the 9 a side game with home defeats for the U9A and U10B teams while the U9B team had to settle for a share of the spoils with Wolfe Tone A, with Keith Moore on target for Town.
Mar 7 Classy Town add Rovers to the list
Played six, won six and still yet to concede a goal this season, Arklow Town's U14A side finally got to share a pitch with main rivals Wicklow Rovers earlier today, the two meeting at Whitegates in the first of three key games between the sides. In the end, a massive win for Town, the result now firmly placing Town in a position to add another league title to the club's haul already this season. Elsewhere in WDSL action, wins for both U13A and U13B against Newtown and Ardmore respectively. The win for the U13B team leaves them with one hand on the league title in Division 1. The U16A side chalked up an expected three points in a rare league outing against Ardmore, with Dara Verney bagging a hat trick.
Mar 7 Town's U15s are crowned champions
Not ideal, but afforded a walkover from today's opponents Enniskerry, Arklow Town U15A therefore picked up the three points required to ensure they were crowned deserving champions in WDSL U15 Premier Division. The Town side have proven themselves this season winning all previous eight outings in the division and scoring no less than 36 goals in the title winning run, with ten players netting. The U15s become the sixth Arklow Town side to successfully land a WDSL league title this season and with other titles possibly heading Town's way it looks as though season 2008-09 is shaping up to be one of the best for the Club. Congratulations, lads.
Mar 7 Sublime Hanley strike strengthens Town's grip at top
A goal of the very highest quality from Town's Ross Hanley crowned an excellent performance from Arklow Town U10A against rivals Greystones United at the Leisure Centre earlier today. A good contest between two fine sides, the deadlock was broken by Town's Mikey Quigley, coming on to a loose ball and driving into the net. Town's win was sealed late on with the mercurial Liam Scales netting from close range. In other fixtures at the Leisure Centre today, the U10C's were well beaten by Rathnew, in a very below par team performance. The U8C's shared the spoils with Enniskerry B.

Mar 1 Byrne double puts 13As back on winning path

The 13B's also added three points to further strengthen their title challenge for honours in Division 1, coming from behind to defeat St. Patrick's. The U14B's, not having played since December 14 last, finally got to play only their second home fixture, a share of the spoils with Wicklow Rovers B. The U10A's continued their charge for the Shield title, winning away at Ardmore 4-0 but disappointment for both U10B and U10C sides, losing at Newtown and Wolfe Tone A respectively. Jack Donnelly was once again the matchwinner for the U10D's who defeated Greystones United C. The U9A's and U9B's drew and beat their Enniskerry equivalents at Bog Meadow while the 'in house' derby between U8A and U8B ended level. Wins also for U8C and U8E while the U8D team suffered their first defeat.

Feb 22 Late Murphy winner sees Town into last eight of National Cup
A fantastic win for Town's U16A side away at DDSL side Belvedere sees the team advance into the last eight of this year's SFAI Barry Cup. Clive Crammond broke the deadlock early into the second half with a contender for goal of the season. Belvedere levelled, placing the outcome on an edge. With extra time on the horizon up stepped Town's striker Jack Tim Murphy to fire home the decider, much to the delight of Arklow's travelling support. A fantastic achievement for this fine Arklow side, in reaching the last eight with all victories earned on their travels. Match report here
Feb 22 Slice of Brennan magic points 13B's into title challenge
A lone strike from Patrick Brennan was enough to steer Town's U13B team to three key points in the hunt for the Division 1 league title against rivals Aughrim Rangers A. Disappointment though for the U13A side, losing out to Wicklow Rovers at Whitegates - 3-2 the scoreline. Defeats also for our U10B, D and E sides. The U9A side recorded an excellent 3-1 win over a very competent St. Anthony's while the U9B's earned a highly creditable draw away at Wolfe Tone B. The U9C's though lost out 2-1 at home to Greystones. Christopher Drohan and Mikey O'Halloran were on the mark for the new U8E side, winners once again while both U8B and U8D enjoyed hard fought draws. The U14A side continued their winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 result over Rathnew, both goals from Jonathan Delahunt. Similarly, the U15's secured three points and placed one hand on the title with a 3-1 win against main rivals Rathnew. The U12B side enjoyed an excellent 3-2 win over Division 2 side Ashford Rovers to earn a promotion when the Shield commences. League winners U10A continued their impressive start to the Shield with a thumping 6-0 win at Wicklow Rovers. All match reports to follow on Monday afternoon.
Feb 20 Cup draw throws up Town derby clash
The draws were made earlier last evening for the quarter finals of all WDSL cup competitions. The pick of the ties is undoubtedly the clash of Town's U11A side and the U11B side. All ties to be played on the weekend ending March 14/15.
Feb 15 High drama in cup action across the ages
Cheers and tears in equal measure as the sun shone and cup football swung into action. Our U10D's secured a fantastic 1-0 win away at Greystones United thanks to a great strike from Brandon Hogan. Goals from Ross Hanley and Jack Darcy saved the day for the U10A's, at Newtown. The U9A side maintained their challenge for further honours with a good win at Wolfe Tone A but lady luck didn't shine on the U9B's who were unlucky to lose a penalty shoot out against Wolfe Tone B. At U8 level, a fantastic win for the U8A side over Avonmore. Disappointment though for the U10B's who lost to Greystones. The U11B's were superb in dumping Carnew out of the cup at Lamberton 3-0 while the U12B's experienced a true nailbiter in Aughrim, levelling 5-5 before winning through on penalties. The U13A's prevailed against St. Patrick's, as expected, while the U13B's had a hard day at Wicklow Rovers. The U16A side were also easy winners against Wicklow Town.
Feb 14 Town six shooters slam All Blacks

Elsewhere, it was heartbreak for the U10C side who travelled to Wolfe Tone A for a U10 Joseph Blunt Cup clash, losing to a contentious goal late in extra time after more than matching their opponents throughout the game. The U9C team lost out to a good Arklow United side in their local derby cup tie while further disappointment for the U11C side, defeated at Wicklow Rovers. Great news though for our new U8E side, who recorded a fantastic 4-3 win at home against Aughrim Rangers. An equally exciting game between the U8D's and Greystones United ended level, the two sides sharing six goals in a thriller.

Feb 3 International Friendly game versus Republic of Ireland postponed
Having played three times over the past year or so, little to seperate the sides, it appears as though both have been beaten by the weather this time around as tomorrow's eagerly anticipated fixture between the Republic of Ireland's U16 side and Arklow Town's U16 side has been postponed due to the severe weather conditions. The game has been provisionally rescheduled for next month, on Wednesday March 25. The two previous encounters provided excellent football on both nights, in front of good attendances and hopefully when the game does go ahead a sizeable crowd will be in attendance to support both club and country!
Feb 2 FAI thinking positive - Workshop held in Arklow
Michael Lynam, the Football Association of Ireland's Children's Officer successfully delivered the first of three workshops around the county on the subject of "Positive Coaching", at Arklow's Arus Lorcain earlier tonight. Clubs from the south part of the county were all invited and despite the treacherous road conditions a good attendance was present to listen to a highly thought provoking and enjoyable meeting with Mr. Lynam. The aim of the meeting, for all Wicklow and District Schoolboy / Girl League managers and coaches, was to reflect on how it may feel from a child / player perspective, their participation within sport and their own sense of importance to their team or club. More details here.
Jan 31 Lady luck deserts Town in SFAI Evans Cup exit
Arklow Town U15s have made a cruel exit from this season's SFAI Evans Cup after a narrow 2-1 defeat away at Galway's Mervue United this afternoon. Having made the long journey west Town were slow to start and found themselves one down inside ten minutes, through a debatable effort from a Mervue forward. The home side went two ahead with five minutes remaning but Town grabbed a lifeline with Mark Hardy pulling one back. A late barrage on the home goal saw Town almost level the match and though Town's overall performance deserved better they now exit the cup. Match report here.
Jan 29 WDSL cup draws made at monthly meeting
Plenty of excitement tonight at the monthly meeting of all WDSL clubs with the draws being made for the various cup competitions, from age 9 upwards. Our U9A's were drawn out of the hat to face Wolfe Tone A away, and having already defeated their opponents twice in their successful league campaign will be reasonably confident of progress. Town's U9B team were also drawn to face Wolfe Tone opposition, their B team, though this time Arklow were afforded home advantage. The U9C team were given a tough assignment when drawn to face Arklow United away. At U10 level, great interest in the draw for the opening round of the Premier Cup having three league winning sides all in the one draw. With only three ties to be selected all three Town sides emerged from the draw, but each facing different opponents. Arguably the hardest task faces the U10C team, drawn to face Wolfe Tone A away. The U10B's will welcome Greystones United A to the Leisure Centre while the U10A side travel to face Newtown.

In the U10 Division 1 Cup, Town's U10D team were drawn to face Greystones United C away while the U10E side must travel to St. Patrick's, which will prove to be a good test for them. The U11A side were afforded a bye in the U11 Premier Cup whilst the U11B team need no further incentive to defeat Carnew, who will come to Arklow, having lost twice to them in league action this season. The U11C side have a tough ask, drawn to face Wicklow Rovers B away. Town's U12A side were given a bye in the U12 Premier Cup while U12 Division 3 side Town U12B must travel to Division 2 side Aughrim A for their cup clash. At U13 level, Town's U13A side face a banana skin at St. Patrick's while the U13B's face a tough away trip to Wicklow Rovers A The biggest mismatch of the season thus far saw Town's U14A side demolish Coolboy 20-0 last month and the draw has pitted the two together for a repeat meeting, at Bridgewater Centre Park. Not without a tinge of irony, the U14B team - who have hardly kicked a ball in anger this season - were one of five teams to receive a bye into the quarter finals. Town's U15 side opened their WDSL league campaign with a 6-0 thumping of Carnew and followed that result up by going one better in the reverse fixture. The draw for the U15 Premier Cup sees Town travelling oncemore to Carnew who will be eager for a reversal of fortunes. At U16 level, the 16B team were afforded a bye . Not so lucky were the U16A side, first out of the hat and set to welcome Wicklow Town to Arklow.
All ties to be played on the weekend ending February 14/15. Full draws here. |
Jan 27 The future's Orange!
Last Saturday afternoon, the new U8E team played their first ever game as a team, in the new U8 Orange 1 Shield Division. The team, all graduates of the ever popular 6s and 7s Club, having come through the pre-Christmas ten week Saturday morning programme with flying colours, were all eager to take to the pitch in club colours and they thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of club football, in Town colours. Speaking of which, the 6s and 7s Club is set to return to Bridgewater Centre Park, commencing on Saturday, February 14 (details here). A great turnout of parents and family was present to watch their first game and hopefully this will continue over the coming weeks. The team is managed by Austin Walker and Cliff Whelan. More details here.
Jan 26 Upcoming events - Kick Start Coaching dates and Positive Coaching Workshop
Details and dates for upcoming Kick Start 1 and 2 Coaching courses are now available. Also, Michael Lynam, FAI Children's Officer will deliver 3 workshops to managers of teams in the WDSL next month. The workshop, which lasts about 2 hours, is titled 'Positive Coaching' and is aimed at all managers/coaches in the WDSL, to reflect on how it may feel from a child/player perspective on what is important for them when playing for a team as part of a club. The first of these workshops will take place in Arklow and is for all managers from clubs in the south of the County, on Monday, February 2, in Arus Lorcain, Castlepark, Arklow at 7pm.
Jan 24 Reid extra time winner puts Town into last 16
High drama in Waterford earlier today with the U16A side prevailing against Waterford side Southend United in their eagerly anticipated SFAI Barry Cup clash. Mark Hardy had placed Town ahead only for the home side to level matters from the penalty spot. Up stepped Ian Reid in extra time to secure Town's place in the last 16 nationally. Disappointment though, back at base, for both U11A's and U13A's, both sides knocked out of their respective SFAI National Cup competitions at the last 32 stage, against Malahide United and Kilmacrennan respectively.
Jan 24 Town's 10A's on top in first derby clash
With Town's U10B team winning the Division 1 title it ensured two league winning Town sides would compete side by side in the Premier Shield and today the two sides came face to face in the first of two clashes, with the A's comfortable victors on the day - the result enhanced by a clinical Ross Hanley hat trick. The U10C's, also a league winning side, promoted to Division 1, faced a strong Wolfe Tone A side and with a highly creditable performance earned a share of the spoils in an entertaining goalless game. Disappointment for U8B and C sides in defeats against Carnew and Enniskerry respectively. The new U8E side, fresh from the 6s and 7s Club, fulfilled their first ever game in WDSL competition against a strong Carnew side. The U8A side had a great win away at Greystones, the day perfectly rounded with birthday boy Callum Randall amongst the scorers!
Jan 19 Town sides set for Futsal Blitz in Newtown
The Community Grounds in Newtown should prove to be a hive of activity this weekend with many of this year's under nine sides, from all WDSL clubs, participating in the first Futsal Blitz for the age group. Arklow Town are sending all three under nine sides with all of them facing action on Saturday. All teams are requested to wear their team colours. The intention of the Blitz is to introduce Futsal and to create a futsal league at U10 level next winter which would involve all those players participating this coming weekend. There will be no finals or medals so everyone have fun and enjoy!
Jan 17 Town's title charge strengthens in the wind
Playing only their fourth league fixture of the season, Town's U14A side travelled to Rathnew to face the home side, themselves vying for a title challenge. A determined Town side displayed their class, cruising to a comfortable 5-0 win with goals from Gavin Forde, Jonathan Delahunt, James Sheehan, Dean Doyle and Diarmuid Larkin. The U10E side travelled to league leaders Glencormac and put up a stout effort before succumbing to their opponents 3-0. Major disappointment though for the U18 side in the FAI Youth Cup, exiting cruelly away at Edenderry. A tight match, played in terrible conditions, ended scoreless after ninety minutes with Town spurning chances to win. With penalties looming the home side struck the cruel body blow to Town's cup hopes.
Jan 11 Blown in the wind
Major disappointment for the U12B team earlier today, at a blustery Ferndale Park, losing the key title decider against Arklow United. Goals from Tiernan McBride and Clive Keenan enabled the U9A team to make a winning start in their Shield campaign against Wicklow Rovers A, while the U9B team opened their account with a fine win in Greystones. Wins also, in Shield competition, for the U8C and U10A sides. The U11B side re-ignited their league campaign with a home win over Ashford though disappointment for the U13B team in Greystones. The U16B team reinforced their position at the top of the U16 Premier Division with a thumping 8-2 win over Wicklow Rovers.
Jan 10 Title for U11A's and joy for 16s in National Cup success
Joy on the road for Arklow Town U11A's, U13A's and U16A's, all recording key victories. The U11A's, in blitzing Ardmore Rovers 14-1 in Ballywaltrim, lifted the Premier Division League title - their third successive title. Their success also ensures Town making a clean sweep of Premier Division titles thus far (U9, U10 and U11). The U16A side travelled once again to Longford for a massive SFAI National Cup clash with Longford Town, at Flancare Park. Goals from Dara Verney and Domhnall Minogue sealed a fantastic win for Town who now advance to the last 32 nationally and the open draw. Meanwhile, back in WDSL action, the U13A side enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 over Newtown to maintain their own push for league honours. The U8D side, moving up a division, entertained Wicklow Rovers at the Leisure Centre in a cracking U8 Blue Shield clash. Thomas Lynch scored twice and Sean Crowley added a third as both sides settled for a share of the spoils.
Jan 9 Futsal is coming for the under nines
The Wicklow and District Schoolboys / Girls League are running a Futsal League for this season's under nine teams. The competition will commence at the end of this year, in December and run into the New Year (2010). A workshop is to be held, in assocation with the FAI, next Thursday evening, January 15th, in the Newtown Community Centre. All under nine managers are requested to attend. The WDSL have also detailed plans for a futsal blitz on the weekend January 24/25 - so there will be no WDSL fixtures in this age category on that weekend. For further details, please contact Daragh Murray.
Jan 6 Training session for players born in 2000/2001 - new U8 team being formed
Arklow Town are hosting a training session this coming Sunday morning for players born in either 2000/2001 with a view to forming a new Under 8 side to participate in the forthcoming WDSL Shield. WDSL Shield football is non-competitive at under eight level and a great introduction to the sport for children of this age. Training commences at 10.00am on Sunday morning, and all attending players are requested to bring a non-fizzy drink with them, preferably water.
Jan 4 Town trio trial for international squads
Arklow Town players Cian Ryan (U14) and Ian Reid (U16) have both trained over the school holidays with the Irish Elite squads. Manager John Morling, in assessing the capabilities of players with ambitions of making the squad for this tournament, invited a number of players to Dublin on Saturday last for training and coaching. Fellow Town player Mark Hardy has been requested to attend trials for the U16 Irish squad also.
Jan 4 Town sides return to WDSL league action
Arklow Town U10D and U10E came head to head in a WDSL Division 3 clash at the Leisure Centre earlier today, with the D team overcoming an under strength E team. Brandon Hogan and Patrick O'Brien both netted twice for the U10D team in a 6-0 victory. The U9C team welcomed title chasing Carnew for their Division 3A clash and though more than matching their opponents in play they ended up on the wrong end of a 0-2 reverse. The U18 side had a friendly game away at Manortown, winning comfortably 4-1 - goals from Dara Verney (2), James Scallan and Darragh Culleton. The U13A side were also in action, competing in a mid-season tournament hosted by Crumlin United. The team put in a fantastic effort, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
Dec 28 Gearing up for resumption of competition
With WDSL competition due to resume in the opening week of the New Year, a glance across the divisions paints a healthy picture for numerous Arklow Town sides. Having already secured two Premier titles at under 9 and 10 levels, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the club could yet secure a clean sweep across those levels, from under 9 through to under 16 levels. Indeed, collectively those premier level sides currently enjoy a unique goal difference of +192!
Dec 22 Murray earns FAI U16 Player Of The Year Nomination
Arklow Town’s exciting midfielder Shane Murray has added to his array of honours to date with a nomination for the FAI Under 16 player of the year. The Football Association of Ireland will host their annual eircom / FAI International Awards at a ceremony in the Citywest Hotel on February 8th next. Murray’s nomination for the prestigious U16 player of the year title crowns a fantastic year for the Arklow youth and comes in the same week where he scored a key goal for the FAI Irish Schools team in their 2-2 draw with New Zealand Schools. Shane enjoyed a highly successful 2007/08 season in the green shirt, scoring three goals for his country and again being honoured with the captain's armband against Malta when the Irish side reached the final of the Maltese International Tournament. Shane’s performance and progress has been monitored by numerous Premier League clubs and this nomination will only add to his stature. His nomination reinforces Arklow Town’s firmly held belief that players can develop to international standards within their structure and also that of the WDSL.
Dec 22 Club President wishes Season's Greetings to All
Club President, Mr. Michael Morgan, has taken time out to wish all associated with Arklow Town Football Club a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. In his statement Mr. Morgan expressed a desire to wish all the players who don the shirt of Arklow Town all the very best for the upcoming Christmas holidays. Typically, he forgets no one, remembering to acknowledge all those involved with our many teams - from players, managers, parents, kit washers, and anyone remotely connected with the teams. His best wishes for a highly successful 2009 go out to all our teams.
Dec 21 Town 10B's secure hat trick of titles for 10's
Town's U10B's matched the achievements of both U10A and U10C sides when lifting their league title, claiming the Division 1 crown after a thumping 9-0 win over St. Fergal's. Such was Town's supremacy they could even afford to see keeper Gary Fennell miss a penalty! The U10D's lost on their travels, in Enniskerry, but better news for the U12B side, winners over Ardmore Rovers, the result putting Town in the driving sea in Division 3. The U13B's had a similar success away in Aughrim while big wins for both U15A and U16B sees both those sides on top of their divisions. The U9C's gave a strong Arklow United A side a good run for their money while the clash between Town's U13A side and Wicklow Rovers was postponed due to sickness in the Rovers camp.
Dec 20 Town 9A's lift league title in triumphant style
Arklow Town U9A's put on a five star show for all present when defeating Ardmore Rovers 5-1 in Ballywaltrim earlier today - the result ensuring Town are crowned champions. Goals from Eoin Cullen, Clive Keenan (2) and Eoghan O'Neill (2) put Town on the road to glory. The U11A side had an equally important win away at title rivals Greystones United A, goals from Dáire O'Conchubhair and Shane Beevor securing a precious 2-1 win. Defeats though for the U11B and U11C sides but better news from the already crowned U10 Premier champions, U10A, who finished unbeaten in the league, winning 6-1 at Newtown; and an incredible 20-0 (yes, TWENTY!) for the U14A side, over Coolboy back at Lamberton.
Dec 18 SFAI National Cup draws made - 4 Town sides into last 32
The draws were made last evening for the various SFAI National Cup competitions. After the regional knock out rounds, four Arklow Town sides have advanced to the open draw stage. In the U11 Menton-Seery Cup, Town's U11A side will host Malahide United. At U13 level, the U13A's will welcome Kilmacrennan or AN Other for their Troy Cup clash. The U15A's, who reached the last eight in the Goodson Cup last season, must travel once again to Galway, to face Mervue United in their Evans Cup tie. The U16A side have yet to reach to qualify for the open stage, their fixture against Longford Town still to be played, but if they do qualify they will travel to Waterford to face Southend United in the Barry Cup.
Dec 14 Mixed fortunes for 11s
With both sides needing wins in order to preserve their respective charges for honours the U11A side heightened their own march for league honours with a 7-0 drubbing of Wolfe Tone A in Bray while the U11B team had a crazy 5-5 draw at Ashford. Dáire O'Conchubhair, for the second game running, grabbed a hat trick for the A team while Darren Dempsey was on the scoresheet twice for the B team. The U14B side lost out to Wicklow Rovers B, at Whitegates, in a five goal thriller, with Rory Martin and Tommy Hurley on the Arklow scoresheet. All other matches were postponed.
Dec 14 WDSL U9 Premier Title on ice at the Leisure Centre
Needing a win to lift the WDSL U9 Premier Division title, the U9A side had to settle for a share of the spoils with Ardmore Rovers, in an exciting 2-2 draw. A wonder strike from Eoin Cullen put Town on their way and despite a further goal from Jason Roche it wasn't to be, on the day. Town now need a minimum one point when the two sides meet again next weekend to become champions. The U9B team had a tough day at St. Anthony's, losing 3-0 while Coolboy failed to appear in Arklow to play the U9C's. Congrats to the U10E team, progressing all the time, scoring their first goals of the season - two from Tom Hurley and one from Sean Saunders - in the 3-5 defeat against St. Patrick's. Frustration though for both U10C and U10D sides, losing to Ardmore and Glencormac respectively.
Dec 12 Murray spot on as Kiwi's leave it late
Shane Murray had a major role to fulfil today when playing for the Irish Schools against their New Zealand counterparts at the Oscar Traynor Ground in Coolock. Murray weaved a little magic in the penalty area before being fouled and the Arklow player stepped up himself to score from the spot kick. Ireland were leading 2-1 with seconds to go but conceded an injury time goal to leave everyone happy with a 2-2 outcome.
Dec 11 Murray set to face Kiwis for Irish Schools
Shane Murray has been selected to play for the FAI Schools International side as they entertain the New Zealand squad at the Oscar Traynor ground in Coolock tomorrow, Friday, with kick off at the Dublin venue at 1.00pm. Murray, alongside club mate James Scallan, was a member of the successful Leinster Schools side that recently secured the Inter Provincial title after games in Athlone and Tullamore and will be keen to impress in the friendly fixture as the Irish Schools International side have been invited to participate in a four team tournament to be held in St. Helier in Jersey next February.
Dec 7 Town sides advance in National Cup successes
Two very entertaining and convincing wins for Arklow Town U11A's and U13A's respectively, at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today, in National Cup competitions. The U11A side welcomed Dublin side Rangers AFC for a fourth round SFAI Menton-Seery clash and with a masterful performance from hat trick hero Dáire O'Conchubhair they never looked back as they booked their place in the open draw, into the last 32. A similar tale for the U13A's who faced a stern challenge from a good Edenderry side. Despite the 4-1 scoreline, it was a closer game than the final result suggests. Nevertheless, Town were deserving winners and are worthy of their place in the last 32 at national level in the SFAI Troy Cup.
Dec 7 Clinical Dodd volley secures League title for 10A's
A superb volley from Conor Dodd against rivals Greystones United was enough to secure the WDSL U10 Premier League title for the U10A side, making it two league titles now for Arklow Town in this age category this season. The U10B side stepped ever nearer to securing the Division 1 title with a convincing 4-0 win away in Enniskerry. The U9A's are also on the verge of a League title success, having secured three precious points with a fine win over Wicklow Rovers A. Both sides can now lift League titles next weekend. All outstanding match reports to be updated on Monday. Defeat though for the U9B team on their travels to Wicklow Town, going down 2-0.
The Town's U10C side emphatically defeated Ardmore Rovers at the Leisure Centre to become WDSL U10 Division 2 League champions. Goals from Cameron Walker, Alex Tyrrell (2), Michael O'Sullivan and Ronan Arthur sealed the victory but it was most definitely a team effort that won the game. James Scallan headed Town's U18 side into the next round of the FAI Youth Cup after Town secured a very famous win over FC Carlow in Tullow. Match report to follow. Elsewhere, home wins for the U11B, U15A and U16B sides, valuable points for all sides in their push for League honours. The U12A side had a good 4-0 win away at Wolfe Tone while in U8 football, the U8B team drew 2-2 with Newtown while the U8C team scored eight away from home, with Ben Kavanagh grabbing five!
Dec 2 Coming soon - The Return Of The Dancing Elves!
C'mon everybody! Time for you all to start nominating who YOU would like to see "shaking a leg" on the club website this Christmas. Email your suggestions to the webmaster and you never know who just might appear over the coming days as we count down to Christmas!
Nov 30 The Big Freeze hits WDSL fixture list
Not for the first time this season, adverse weather conditions has ensured a number of games are postponed across the WDSL this weekend. All home Arklow Town fixtures have fallen foul of the weather, postponed due to frozen pitches. Disappointment therefore for the U10B side who could have secured the Division One league title today. Similarly, the U12B team were due to travel the short distance to Arklow United for a top of the table clash in WDSL U12 Division 3 - that too a victim of the frozen conditions.
Nov 29 Town sides freeze on the big day
A frustrating Saturday for a number of Town sides, some affected by the chilly conditions forcing games to be postponed; other club sides finding themselves on the end of disappointing reverses. In National Cup competition, immense disappointment for both U16B and U14A sides who exited their various National Cup competitions, falling short of reaching the open national draw. The 16B's finished level 2-2 with Parkvale after extra time failed to separate the sides. Despite heroics from Town keeper Nathan Condell the visitors advanced after a dramatic penalty shoot out. The U14A's were on the wrong end of a 0-3 reverse against Kilcullen, just one of those days. On a brighter note, the U15s advanced, thanks to a John Kearon haul of goals, the Town striker netting all four times against Portlaoise. The U16A's long journey to Longford proved fruitless with the referee ruling the pitch unplayable. In WDSL action, disappointment for the U10C side who lost out at home to Wicklow Rovers, spurning a chance to win the league. Ross Hanley was on target though for the U10A side, who drew 1-1 away at Wicklow Rovers to inch closer to a title themselves while the U11C team hit Ashford for seven in WDSL U11 Division 3.
Nov 27 Don't forget the Table Quiz tonight!
A lot of hard work and effort has gone into tonight's Annual Table Quiz, to be held in The Old Ship pub on Main Street. Football clubs rely on such events in order to raise the finances necessary to run teams and with Arklow Town Football Club catering for approximately 400 children it goes without saying that the table quiz is a major highlight in the fundraising calendar. Plenty of fun and games to be had, sometimes there's better craic to be had with offering a wrong answer than coming up with the right answer! It's all a bit of fun! A fantastic turnout last year went a very long way to financially supporting a number of teams and we hope this year proves likewise. Don't forget the post-quiz auction either, with a number of valuable items coming under the hammer. The quiz starts at 8.30pm sharp - so get your skates on early! Please support.
Nov 23 Town move one step closer to title
Arklow Town's U10C team enjoyed a magnificent win on their travels at Wicklow Rovers to strengthen their grip on WDSL U10 Division 2 while a home draw against Wolfe Tone A in Division 1 sees the U10B team remain atop that league. Defeats though for both U10D and U10E despite good performances. Town's U11A hammered Ardmore Rovers to remain firmly in contention, as did the U12B side when winning against Newtown. The U12A side though went down to a solitary goal away at Wicklow Rovers. Hat tricks for both Adam Casserley and Shane Walker eased the U13A side to a victory over Wolfe Tone A while the U14B side were successful on their travels, winning in Roundwood. Lastly, the U15 side won away in Enniskerry to preserve their 100% winning start to the season.
Nov 22 Town ease into last sixteen in Leinster Youth Cup rout
Fancied Dublin side Rangers arrived at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today expecting to overcome the challenge of a young Arklow side in their Leinster Youth Cup clash but departed a very well beaten side, as Town's youngsters put on the style in a superb 6-1 win. Diarmuid Larkin and Philip Nolan both netted twice as Town's U14A side swept past the challenge of Offaly side Killeigh, to reach the SFAI Goodson Cup fourth round. In WDSL action, it was business as usual for the U10A side, who eased past Ardmore Rovers A 8-2, with Liam Scales netting a hat trick. Disappointment though for the U11B side who suffered their first home defeat of the season, going down 4-2 to Carnew. The U11C's suffered a similar fate, losing 4-1 to Wicklow Town. In U8 football, a great win again for the U8C side, with Nathan Cullen getting a last minute winner at Coolboy to complete his hat trick. The U8D side gave Carnew a number of players in order to fulfil the fixture and eased to a 4-0 win. The U8A side though lost at a physically stronger Ardmore side. No details as yet of the meeting between Arklow Town U9B and Wolfe Tone A.
Nov 21 Hanlon takes first step on road to recovery
A bit of good news for Arklow Town's U16A premier side with news that influential midfield playmaker Adam Hanlon is now on the road to recovery following his broken metatarsal foot injury. Adam had his plaster cast removed on Tuesday and commences his rehabilitation in the swimming pool. Manager Brian Byrne stated "knowing Adam and his will to succeed he will be back in training pre-Christmas and play competitively at the turn of the year". This will come as a welcome boost for his under 16, 17 and 18 team-mates. Town's U18s face Rangers in a Leinster Youth Cup clash, at Bridgewater Centre Park tomorrow, kick off at 2pm.
Nov 16 Town advance into SFAI Cup 4th Round after penalty shoot out
Bridgewater Centre Park was certainly the place to be for high drama today as Arklow Town U16B entertained Ardmore Rovers in a 3rd Round Barry Cup tie. After ninety minutes the sides were level, one apiece and extra time brought no further goals so via the lottery of penalties Town advanced, with James Graham, Stuart O'Neill and Patrick Byrne the scorers from the spot. The U11A side put six past rivals Newtown while the local derby in WDSL U12 Division 3 ended all square. Harry Horsman was on the mark twice for the U14B's in their 6-2 reversal away at St. Anthony's, Town's first league fixture for some weeks. Elsewhere, big wins for U10A, U10B and U10C, to put all sides in pole position across the U10 age divisions. Defeats though for U10D and U10E, at home to Enniskerry and St. Patrick's respectively. A lone strike from Aaron Roche was enough to secure victory for the unbeaten U9A side away at leaders Enniskerry. The win places Town very firmly in the driving seat for honours. The U8A side went down at home to Wicklow Rovers but better news of the U8D side, winners away at Carnew with Thomas Lynch bagging a hat trick.
Nov 15 14A's make it two from two...
A rare league game for our U14A side, only their second this season (and first home fixture) - a thoroughly comfortable 8-0 victory over Ardmore Rovers A: the result pushing Town to within ten points of leaders, Wicklow Rovers! Philip Nolan, Ryan Byrne and James Sheehan all scored twice with the other goals coming from Diarmuid Larkin and Jordan Forde. After the marvellous win last weekend in the SFAI National Cup, it was back to earth this weekend for the U13A side, unlucky to lose on the day against main rivals Wicklow Rovers, 2-1 at Bridgewater Centre Park. The non-appearance of both Wicklow Rovers and Greystones United respectively ensured walkovers for our frustrated U8B and U13B sides. We still await the outcome of our U9B's clash away at Wolfe Tone A.
Nov 9 Town sides advance in National Cup competitions
The best was most definitely saved till last earlier today with Arklow Town's U13A side outgunning a very strong Tullamore side in an exciting SFAI Troy Cup clash. Shane Walker bagged two, including a late late clincher, to ensure Town step a little closer to the round of 32. Earlier in the day the U16A side brushed aside Kildare's Ballyoulster United with a 4-0 scoreline not truly reflecting the home side's total dominance. A day to forget though for the U12A side who never got going against Newbridge Town in their SFAI Norton Cup clash, losing 3-0. Only one game survived the weather in WDSL League football and a pretty significant win it provided for our U11B side who accounted for Enniskerry, winning 4-3. The win sees Town sitting proudly on top of U11 Division One. All team pages will be updated on Monday.
Nov 9 Sunday fixtures get the go-ahead after pitch inspections
With all 7-a-side and 9-a-side games already fallen victims to the now taken for granted "weekend" weather, all eyes turn to the 11-a-side fixtures due to be played today. After early morning pitch inspections at a number of WDSL grounds all games remain scheduled for play with two major SFAI National Cup ties due to be played at Bridgewater Centre Park the obvious focus here at Arklow Town. Groundstaff (pictured left) were working hard at Lamberton yesterday, in the aftermath of the U15 SFAI National Cup tie between Town and Edenderry, to prepare the pitch for today's scheduled fixtures. Hopefully all efforts will not have been in vain!
Nov 8 Kearon hat trick puts Town on course for national challenge
Arklow Town U15s advanced to the next stage of this season's U15 SFAI National Cup with a convincing 5-0 victory over Edenderry, in very testing conditions at Bridgewater Centre Park earlier today. Goals from John Kearon (3), Liam Carroll and Ian Reid ensured the home side advanced to the next stage of the Evans Cup. In WDSL action, two massive home wins for our U8C and U8D sides at the Leisure Centre, against St. Fergal's and St. Patrick's respectively. Match reports to follow. Heavy rain today has placed in doubt much of tomorrow's programme across the WDSL divisions. Nov 5 Mid term break competition - who are these "soccer sisters"?
Thanks to all who had a go at guessing the identity of our unknown "soccer sisters". We had some very interesting answers offered and some rather amusing offerings! However, in total we had only two fully correct entries and one of those came from a "soccer sister" who was present, and equally attired, when the image was taken! Therefore, the entry of one Daniel Ledwith could not be accepted meaning that the winner of the mid term break competition is Dillon Mordaunt. Who are the "soccer sisters" then? Well, in no particular order, the three players are Shane Murray, Stuart O'Neill and James Scallan. In the interest of health and safety, we'll not reveal the identity of the owner of the clothes on view!

Nov 2 Everyone's a winner!
Adverse weather once again decimated much of Town's fixture programme with only five teams fulfilling WDSL fixtures today. However, the five teams in action all recorded victories across the divisions. The U12B team eased to a 8-0 victory over Greystones United C, with both Luke Walker and Aaron Doyle netting hat tricks. Joseph Dunne bagged five as the U13B side put seven past Ardmore Rovers B at Bridgewater Centre Park. Three goals from Des Bermingham ensured the U16B team earned the points in a tight contest away at Avonmore while at U8 level, a great first win of the season for the U8A side, 2-1 winners away at Enniskerry. The U8C side travelled the short distance to Ferndale Park, to face Arklow United and amongst the seven goals was a tidy hat trick from Nathan Cullen.
Nov 1 Youth's excel in Kilkenny while 10As roll over Avonmore
Weather decimated Town's home schedule at Lamberton today with all home games postponed. Two WDSL U10 games over at a sticky Leisure Centre with the U10A side rolling over Avonmore, 12-1 - Neil Murphy among the scorers netting four times. The U10C side were seconds away from recording a fourth win in five outings but conceded in the closing seconds to settle for a 2-2 draw against Greystones United B. The U18 side travelled to Castlecomer, to face Deen Celtic in the FAI Umbro Youth Cup and recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory to advance to the next round.
Oct 28 New club crested shorts available
We have a new range of club crested black shorts now in stock and readily available. All Arklow Town players should be properly attired when playing for the Club. The Club does not want to see players wearing shorts with crests of various English Premier League sides upon them; or indeed branded shorts. Arklow Town teams wear O'Neill's black shorts - readily available online, so no excuses! Online Shop
Oct 19 Deadly Donnelly decides derby
Town's U10D team came out on top in the "internal" club derby between the Ds and U10E, at the Leisure Centre with a clinical finish from Jack Donnelly securing the points for the D team. The U10A side preserved their 100% start to the season with a thumping 4-1 win away at Ardmore Rovers. The U8C side came from 0-2 down to win 4-2 against Aughrim, with Nathan Cullen bagging a hat trick. In SFAI National Cup competition, great wins on the road for our U11As, at Lakelands; and drama in Dublin with the U12As winning through after a 4-2 victory via the lottery of penalties! WDSL league tables will be updated again this week, as we head into the mid term break.
Oct 18 McBride double keeps Town in top spot
Town's U10B team ensured they remain on course for WDSL Division 1 honours with a key 4-1 win away at Rathnew. A solid performance from the team was crowned with two goals coming from Ros McBride. Closer to home, a day to forget for the U10C team who scuffed their lines at home to Wolfe Tone B and ended up on the wrong end of a 0-2 reverse. A James Shannon strike earned the U9B team a draw on the road, at Greystones United while goals from Peter Sherwood and Darren Dempsey ensured the U11B team departed Woodlands with a point also, against 'Stones' U11B team. Even though defeated, the U12B team put in a superb performance away at Newbridge Town's A team, in their National Cup tie in Kildare. Christian Karwat, who had an excellent game, was Town's lone scorer in a 3-1 defeat. Better joy though for the U13A side who put six past Edenderry B in their National Cup clash at Lamberton. Jamie Redmond was on target for the U8B team, in a narrow victory over Greystones B at the Leisure Centre while the U8A team, though enjoying a much improved effort, lost out 2-1 to Stones' A team, also at the Leisure Centre.
Oct 12 Town duo help Leinster to Interprovincial schools title success
Leah Victoria Park in Tullamore played host to this year's FAI Interprovincial schools tournament over the weekend, with Leinster emerging triumphant after three games against the rival provinces. Arklow Town Football Club were represented with the selection of two players - Shane Murray and James Scallan, both from Arklow Community College. The two Arklow boys did not start in the opening fixture, against Connacht, as both sides played out a draw. However, they were both drafted in to start for the second game, against Munster and Leinster were victorious, one solitary strike securing the win. In the deciding game, both Arklow lads again started and both gave excellent performances in the convincing 5-0 win over Ulster - the win ensuring Leinster were crowned champions. Shane Murray has been selected for the FAI Irish Schools Boys U18 squad.
Oct 12 Walker on fire in Town goal spree
Arklow Town U12B's continued their impressive start to the season, once again winning heavily, with a thumping 9-0 win away at Greystones United. Luke Walker hit the net five times, with Nathan Doyle also securing a hat-trick, leaving WDSL U12 Division 3 looking like a battle between local Arklow rivals, Town and United. The U16A team advanced with ease into the next round of the SFAI Barry Cup with a 3-0 win at Glencormac while there was a strong sense of disappointment for the U11A side with their 4-2 reverse at Newtown. Defeats too for the U10E and U10D sides while the U10B side had to settle for a share of the spoils in an entertaining clash with a good St. Anthony's side at the Leisure Centre. A Madus Loco strike ensured another win for the U9C team, at Coolboy, but it was disappointment for the U8C team, losing 5-3 away in Aughrim.
Oct 11 9s and 10s take centre stage

Oct 8 Purdy strike sinks valiant Town
A trilogy of games between Vincent Butler's Irish side and Arklow Town's U16 side over the past twelve months finally yielded a decisive result with the Irish squad claiming the bragging rights, thanks to a Daniel Purdy strike from a set piece, in the last period of play, earlier tonight at Lamberton. Town went closest during the second period of play with two strikes rebounding off the Irish crossbar and cleared. Prior to that the boys in green had gone closest, in the closing seconds of the first half, when Jason Earls denied the Irish with a stunning save from close range. Match report.
Oct 5 Town dig deep to escape with lucky win
Town's U10C side used their Get Out Of Jail Free card at Ferndale Park earlier today when winning the local derby against United. Two goals from Cameron Walker and one from Jack Moriarty brought the points home to Lamberton. The U10B team continued their excellent start in Division 1, four wins from four now, today's 2-0 win at St. Anthony's putting them top, while the U10D team were a little unlucky to lose 2-0 to St. Patrick's. Mixed fortunes at U11 level, with the U11A team held 1-1 at Lamberton, by Greystones. The U11B team recorded an excellent 4-2 win on the road, away at St. Anthony's. The U16A team prevailed in the 'internal derby' (if such a phrase exists!), defeating the U16B team 4-0. Keilin Walker was on the mark for the U13B side who went out of the SFAI Troy Cup at home to Cabinteely Boys. Match reports on all games will be updated Monday afternoon, including reports on all U8 and U9 games played.

An excellent day on the road for a number of Town sides, all registering key wins in their various divisions. The U15A side recorded what may prove to be a very important win at Rathnew, with goals from Darragh O'Leary and Ian Reid earning the Town a 2-1 win. The U14A side, playing their first league fixture of the season, won 4-0 on their travels, at Greystones, with Aidan O'Callaghan netting twice. The impressive start to the season continued for the U13A side, winning away at Wicklow Rovers, Shane Walker another player bagging a pair. The U9B side, entertaining Wicklow Town at home, had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Leisure Centre. No detail yet received from our U9C and U12B sides.
Oct 3 Race against time for Town duo
Town U16 players Jack Tim Murphy and Dara Verney face a race against time to be fit for next Wednesday night's friendly fixture against Vincent Butler's Republic of Ireland U16 side. Both players have been sidelined for the past month after breaking it like Beckham instead of bending it like Beckham - the word metatarsal now a familiar word in the footballer's language! The two sides are meeting at Lamberton for the third time in twelve months, as Butler steps up his team's preparation for their trip to Turkey later this month. Admission is free on the night with kick off at 7.30pm.

Sep 27 First half blitz sets Town side on their way to win
Town's U10C side kicked off the season earlier today with an excellent three points won on their travels, away at Wolfe Tone. The U8C's were once again impressive winners, 6-0 the scoreline at the Leisure Centre, a win over Wicklow Town. Keith Moore and Jano Evans were once again on target for the U9Bs, in their fine 2-1 win over Greystones. Darragh O'Leary bagged a hat-trick as the U15A side defeated Greystones 5-0. The U16B team travelled to Wicklow Rovers and edged out the home side in a five goal game. Back at Lamberton, disappointment for the U14B side, who were beaten 2-0 by Roundwood.

Big wins on their travels today for the U16B side, 5-1 winners away in Blessington, with Stuart O'Neill netting four times; and the U14A side, 6-0 winners over Ardmore Rovers A. Drama at home with the U12B side prevailing in a nailbiter against Wicklow Town - the game level at full time, 1-1. The U11A side eased past Enniskerry at Bridgewater Centre Park while in WDSL action, the U10A side whalloped Avonmore in a very one-sided contest in Rathdrum. The U10D side lost out at home to Aughrim but better news for both U9A and U9C sides, both winners for the second week running. 3-0 wins for both U8B and U8C sides also with Andrew Maher and Ben Kavanagh scoring two goals each for their respective sides.
